Detroit Lions kicker Jake Bates crushes two things: field goals and ice cream.
That’s right, ice cream.
In an article written by Dan Pompei of The Athletic, he revealed that Bates has quite the appetite for toppings on his ice cream.
On the night before a game, Bates enjoys several toppings on his dessert, including brownies, Oreo pieces, waffle cone pieces, caramel and whipped cream.
Safe to say, his teammates were left impressed with the legendary sundae.
“Oh, man, it’s the biggest bowl of ice cream I think I’ve ever seen,” Lions punter Jack Fox said. “It’s like a five-scoop bowl.”
Bates rose to national fame in 2024 with the UFL’s Michigan Panthers by routinely blasting 60-plus-yard field goals.
He then parlayed that showing into an NFL contract with the Lions and secured the starting job by default after an injury to veteran Michael Badgley.
Bates did not disappoint in his first season after making 26-of-29 field goal attempts, including six of 50 yards or more.
Not bad for a guy who nearly gave up football entirely to become a brick salesman.
We’ll see if this revelation about his ice cream habits can land him an endorsement deal.
