Lions free agent pitch brings in former Super Bowl MVP to complement Aidan Hutchinson

If the Detroit Lions want to improve their chances of finally winning a Super Bowl in 2025, the team must add another established edge rusher to its defense.

After cutting Za’Darius Smith, the Lions are slated to start Aidan Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport, but we already know the latter can’t be relied upon due to his injury history.

Justin Melo of The Draft Network has pitched the idea of the Lions acquiring two-time Super Bowl champion Von Miller in free agency to bolster Detroit’s unit.

“The Lions have designs on enjoying postseason success in 2025 after a disappointing showing in the playoffs last season. Marcus Davenport and Josh Paschal are currently the supporting rushers. Davenport missed the majority of 2024 with injury, and Paschal totaled two sacks. Miller would play a legit role in Detroit, and he’d appreciate an opportunity to join a Super Bowl contender,” Melo wrote.

Miller is coming off a season in which he tallied six sacks, which would’ve been the second-most on the Lions, and 32 pressures. Making his stats more impressive is the fact that Miller only played 33% of the snaps in Buffalo.

He may not be an every-down player at the age of 36, but Miller would be a fantastic solution to rotate with Davenport, which could help keep both veterans healthy. And, when Hutchinson needs a breather, Miller can get more snaps that way, also.

The Lions are a perfect fit for the former Super Bowl MVP, as Detroit would give Miller the chance at another ring.

It remains to be seen what Miller is looking for in terms of money, but it shouldn’t be substantial given his age and with it being so late in free agency. Regardless, the Lions have plenty of cap space to bring Miller in.
