Inter Miami were met with a 3-0 defeat against Orlando City in the Major League Soccer on May 18 at Chase Stadium.
This marked to be Inter Miami’s third loss in their last five MLS matches. To add to their list of bad runs, the Herons also got eliminated from the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal.
Inter Miami currently rank sixth in the MLS table with 22 points in 13 matches. Following the defeat against Orlando City, team captain Lionel Messi addressed the series of underwhelming performances from his side on MLS Season Pass.
The Argentine icon mentioned that the Herons ‘have to keep working’ and improve for their upcoming clashes, including the FIFA Club World Cup starting in mid-June.
“The truth is it hurts to lose another game. We’re going through a period of bad results, but we have to keep working and think about what’s coming. We have three or four games left before the month ends, and we need to finish the best way possible to face the Club World Cup,” said Messi.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner asked his fellow clubmates to ‘keep going’ and focus on their next MLS clash, which is against Philadelphia Union on May 24 at Subaru Park.
“We have to keep going because it’s a complicated moment, but we’re all united. And now we’re really going to see if we’re a team. It’s in the difficult moments. Because when everything is going well, it’s very easy. But during tough times, like now, is when we have to be more united than ever, be a real team and get it done,” he said.
“I think we have the team to do it, so we just have to think about what’s coming and get ready for Philadelphia,” concluded Messi.
Messi & Co. are set to face Egyptian club Al Ahly in their first game of the FIFA Club World Cup on May 14, at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida.
