Inter Miami are set to face Egyptian side Al Ahly in their first match of the Club World Cup on June 14 at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida.
Lionel Messi & Co.’s upcoming match next week is also the 2025 Club World Cup’s opening game. Speaking ahead of the clash, Inter Miami star Sergio Busquets expressed (comments via Marca) the excitement of competing against ‘the best clubs in the world.’
“It is very exciting to play in a World Cup where the best clubs in the world are, and to be able to face them. We are very excited and, on top of that, here with two games in our city, in our country, with our fans, so hopefully everything goes well and we can be there as many games as possible, and go through the group,” he said.
The 36-year-old then spoke about playing in a competition of such ‘magnitude,’ hoping that ‘in the end let the best man win who will surely deserve it.’
“The word ‘world’ I think reflects everything in that magnitude, and in the Club World Cup, of course, its teams, each with its own style, from its region, from its group, let’s say, when they have to play and earn the pass to the World Cup.”
In this case, in our country, the United States, in our continent, which is America, we know the type of game that is played. I have also played in Europe. So… so in the rest of the continents. So, well, in the end let the best man win who will surely deserve it,” added Busquets.

Busquets also pointed out the ‘magnitude of the player’ that Messi is ahead of the competition.
What did Sergio Busquets say about Lionel Messi ahead of Inter Miami’s Club World Cup clash?
Busquets and Messi’s on-pitch association dates back to their respective tenures at Barcelona. The Spaniard hailed the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner as the most ‘complete’ player ever and said
“We know the magnitude of the player that Leo is, what he has been, what he will be until he wants to be. I don’t think there is another player as complete and as different, nor do I think there has been. I’m young and I’m sure there have been many very good players… And it’s a pleasure to be able to connect with him in the game, to be able to enjoy it and look at all that he’s capable of doing, which is a lot and is very good and is almost second to none.”
It remains to be seen how the Club World Cup fares for Messi and Inter Miami.
