Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami were eliminated from the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after suffering a crushing 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16.
The clash was the first time Messi has faced his former club since his departure from the Parc des Princes in 2023 with the Argentine icon later expressed dissatisfaction about his time at the French club.
Earlier this year, in an interview with Apple Music, Messi said,
“The way things turned out in my last years in Paris, even though I had to make a quick decision to leave Barcelona, I ended up spending two years that I didn’t enjoy. I wasn’t happy day to day – whether it was training, matches, or just adapting to everything.”
Following Inter Miami’s elimination from the Club World Cup, Messi was asked to share his opinion on the current PSG side and take his pick for the best team in the world.
Messi candidly chose PSG as his answer despite his personal experience at the Ligue 1 side.

What did Lionel Messi say about PSG?
Messi hailed PSG as the ‘best in the world’ on the back of their impressive first-ever Champions League title win. The 38-year-old labelled their win over Inter Miami as ‘normal,’ as the two sides are not ‘playing at the same level.’
“PSG is the best team in the world, without a doubt. They beat Inter in the Champions League final 4 or 5-0, I don’t remember exactly. The result here is normal, we’re not playing at the same level.”

PSG have been matched up against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup, with that clash slated for July 5.
Messi and Inter Miami, meanwhile, are set to return to Major League Soccer action with a tie against CF Montreal on June 5 at Saputo Stadium.
