Leicester City teenage sensation breaks Jude Bellingham’s Championship record

Leicester City in their quest to return to the Premier League next season are off to a very lukewarm start in the Championship as they recorded a win and a loss from their first two games of the 2025/26 season.

The Foxes started their campaign with a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday whereas they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Preston North End on Saturday at the Deepdale.

However, the defeat and the scoreline are taking a backseat as of now as Leicester City’s teenage sensation, Jeremy Monga has become the youngster ever goal scorer in the Championship at 16 years and 37 days.

The English prodigy scored the equalizer in the 67th minute bring Leicester City back in the game only to see Milutin Osmajic score the winner for the hosts in the 85th minute.

Monga has now broken the record that was held by current Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, who scored for Birmingham against Stoke City back in August 2019. Interestingly, his goal helped Birmingham win the clash 2-1 against Stoke.

The England international was only 16 years and 63 days old when he scored the record-breaking goal and held the record for almost six years.

Who is Leicester City prodigy Jeremy Monga?

Monga started his youth career at Coventry City before making the switch to Leicester at the age of eight and gradually became a household name among the academy coaches at the club.

The 16-year-old made his Leicester City senior team debut in April 2025 in the Premier League against Newcastle United and in doing so he became the second-youngest player to feature in the league behind Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri.

Later in August, he became the youngster player to start for the Foxes when he featured in their penalty shootout defeat against Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup.

However, what he did on Saturday beats everything that he has done up until now. With Leicester trailing to an early goal from Alfie Devine, Marti Cifuentes decided to introduce Monga by replacing Stefy Mavididi early on in the second half.

Within 10 minutes of his introduction, the winger scored the equalizer for the visitors showing exceptional footwork and composure to waltz past defenders in the final third.

Leicester City fans would hope that this is only the beginning of many goals scored by the teenage prospect, who reportedly rejected Premier League clubs like Chelsea and Man City to stay in Leicester.
