Leeds United looking to bolster squad with potential signing of talented Moroccan international

Leeds United remain active in this summer’s transfer window to ensure manager, Daniel Farke, has enough options to call upon during his side’s forthcoming Premier League campaign.

The Whites secured automatic promotion back up to the Premier League at the first attempt last season, as the side accumulated 100 points and beat out Burnley on goal difference to win the Championship.

Leeds have already made multiple additions across different areas this summer to boost the team’s chances of remaining in the Premier League.

Goalkeeper, Lucas Perri, plus defenders Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Gabriel Gudmundsson have been brought in, while Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff are the new midfield additions.

Longstaff will provide Premier League experience to Farke’s side having spent the past seven seasons representing Newcastle United in the English top flight.

Forward, Lukas Nmecha, is Leeds’ only attacking addition as of now this summer after the club failed to convince Feyenoord’s Igor Paixao to join, as the Brazilian opted for a move to Marseille.

The newly promoted Premier League side are now rumoured to be strongly interested in bringing Leicester City attacking midfielder, Bilal El Khannouss, to Elland Road,

The Belgian-born Morocco international was a rare standout in what was a dismal Premier League campaign for The Foxes last season.

Despite the side getting relegated to the Championship, El Khannouss managed to create 42 chances for his teammates, and register two goals and three assists in the league.

According to Belgian journalist, Sacha Tavolieri, Leeds are willing to pay the £24.5m release clause to secure the signing of El Khannouss, and met with the player’s entourage earlier this week.

The Whites are also willing to offer solidarity contribution and taxes to Leicester to get a deal done.

However, Leeds will need to wrap up a potential transfer sooner rather than later, as the release clause for the Moroccan international expires on August 15.

Also, there may be some competition for the player’s signature as Crystal Palace reportedly hold some interest in the 21-year-old. However, any potential move for El Khannouss is dependent on Eberechi Eze leaving the club.

A move to Leeds United would represent a second new club in as many years for El Khannouss, as he only joined Leicester last summer from Genk for £21m.

Farke will be hoping a deal for El Khannouss and any other potential signings can be wrapped up in time for Leeds’ Premier League opener with Everton at Elland Road on August 18.
