The Los Angeles Lakers have been grabbing all the headlines. Ever since they made the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade before last season’s trade deadline, it seems like every move they’ve made has come with more intrigue and drama.
The Lakers rumors and drama were at a height when, a few weeks ago, LeBron James and his camp released a controversial statement. The main takeaways were that LeBron wasn’t happy with how things were playing out in Los Angeles, and he was not committed to finishing his career as a Laker.
Many hypothesized that LeBron wasn’t happy with how the Lakers had started to build around Luka instead of him. LeBron trade rumors were getting thrown out left and right. Now, those rumors have quieted down, and many are expecting LeBron to at least play this season in a Lakers uniform.
Then, when Luka signed a massive contract extension with the Lakers, many were wondering what LeBron’s reaction would be.
Shams Charania of ESPN revealed what he has heard as far as LeBron’s reaction to Luka’s contract.
“I am told he’s been supportive and understanding that the Lakers are moving more toward a Luka Dončić-led future…Now what does that mean for LeBron James? He’s opted in, so technically, he is a Laker. How will he finish his career, though? Is he gonna play year 23 and finish out in LA and that’s gonna be it? At the end of the day, I think the Lakers even understand he’s gonna end his career on his own terms.”

If anyone was wondering if LeBron and Luka were going to fight over control of the Lakers next season, this report can put those worries to rest. Although at first LeBron may not have been happy about becoming second in command, it seems like he’s accepted his new reality.
