After close to a decade of Juventus domination, Serie A has become a whole lot more competitive in recent years.
Both AC Milan and Inter Milan ended their respective league title droughts since the start of the decade, with Napoli joining them in 2022/23
Luciano Spalletti’s side stormed to glory with the attacking talents of Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to the fore.
Spalletti left to take on the Italy national team job and a dreadful title defence followed, with president Aurelio De Laurentiis cycling through three head coaches as Napoli limped to a 10th-place finish.
In came Antonio Conte and, despite Osimhen departing on loan to Galatasaray and Kvaratskhelia joining Paris Saint-Germain in January, the former Juventus, Inter and Chelsea boss took I Partenopei to the brink of another Scudetto.
MORE: Who won Serie A 2024/25?
Ex-Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is the new hero of the tifosi and his 12th goal of a stunning debut Serie A season set in motion a 2-0 win over Cagliari on the final weekend.
Nearest rivals Inter Milan won at Como by the same scoreline but Conte’s men would not be denied, taking the title by a point.
How many times have Napoli won Serie A?
Napoli have won a Serie A title four times in their history. The 2024/25 success followed triumphs in 1986/87, 1989/90 and 2022/23.
Their first Scudetto saw Diego Maradona shine brightly as they beat Juventus to the league title by three points, despite Ottavio Bianchi’s side drawing their final three games.
Three years later and, after consecutive second-place finishes, Napoli lifted the Scudetto for a second time with five straight wins to end their campaign.
Despite those triumphs, Napoli have finished as runners-up in Serie A eight times. Only four clubs have finished second more often and Conte will be relieved to have avoided that fate.

Have Napoli ever been relegated?
Along with their occasional success, Napoli have also been at the wrong end of the table at times.
The famous Italian club have been relegated from Serie A a total of five times with their most recent relegation in 2000/01.
Things would only get worse from there and they were relegated again to Serie C for the 2004/05 season after filing for bankruptcy.
They bounced back quickly, though, and secured back-to-back promotions, which returned them to Serie A in 2007/08.
They haven’t come close to relegation since with their lowest finish in 2008/09 when they came 12th and were still 12 points clear of the drop zone.
