The Las Vegas Raiders have turned the page from the preseason after Saturday night and are now focused on trimming their roster down to 53 players.
The deadline to do so falls on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. PT. After that, Las Vegas will look to the waiver wire and free agency for players who could possibly help fill some of their remaining needs.
Players with four or more years of service will be available to sign with any team after being cut, while players with three or fewer years of service will first be subject to the waiver process on Wednesday.
When it comes to injured players, those who are placed on injured reserve after the deadline and those who remain on the PUP list through it will be forced to miss the first four games of the 2025 season.
One position the Raiders will be look to add at is quarterback, where the team has lost Aidan O’Connell for six to eight weeks after he suffered a fractured right wrist in the preseason finale.
“All possibilities are available right now. I mean, wherever they come from, and we’re looking everywhere to see if we can find the best guy that fits us,” head coach Pete Carroll said of adding a quarterback.
“So if you don’t mind, I’m not going to really lay out exactly what we’re looking for here, so I don’t want to show our hand, but I want somebody who’s played. That’s what’s important, a guy that’s had game experience is really huge to me,” he added.
