For Los Angeles Lakers fans, there are two storylines this NBA free agency season. The first is that the team has some big roster holes to fill. The second is the rise of LeBron James trade rumors. The Lakers have made it clear they are building around a Luka Dončić-centered future. Some believe this could mean a LeBron trade is on the horizon. NBA insider, Kevin O’Connor, hypothesized on the idea of expanding the Kevin Durant trade into a deal that trades LeBron James to the Warriors and lands the Lakers two perfect pieces to play with Luka.
“If you really want to get crazy… the KD to Houston deal is not done yet… You could add third teams or fourth teams… Phoenix wanted Butler. So maybe you send LeBron and Bronny James to Golden State, Jimmy Butler to Phoenix, Kevin Durant to Houston, and then Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks to the Lakers.”
This LeBron-Lakers trade is an intriguing one.
Instead of betting on the 40-year-old legend, this gives the Lakers two proven players under 30 years old to help welcome the future with Luka.
If the Lakers really are moving towards building around Luka, Green and Brooks may be more valuable than LeBron.
Brooks is a star defender who shoots nearly 40% from three and brings an attitude and edge to any team he plays on. He is the perfect role player to play alongside Luka.
Green, on the other hand, is a 20-point-per-game scorer who is only 23 years old with tons of room to grow. He could lessen Luka’s offensive load while learning from one of the best offensive orchestrators in the game.

This LeBron-Lakers trade idea would actually make the Lakers better. In the present and down the road. Still, unless there is a LeBron James trade request, the “King” isn’t going anywhere.
