Lakers star LeBron James fires back at critics who say he has ‘no bag’

LeBron James became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer during the 2022-23 season and became the first player to reach 40,000 regular season points the following year. He continued to make history this season as he became the inaugural member of the 50,000 points club when combining the regular season and postseason.

Despite averaging at least 25.0 points per game for 20 consecutive seasons, the four-time MVP has faced criticism online with fans suggesting that he has ‘no bag’. James responded to those conversations during an episode of his “Mind the Game” podcast.

“I see it all the time. It’s like, I’ll be on social media,” Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James stated. “They be like ‘LeBron has no bag’. I’m sitting over there with – ‘LeBron has no bag’ and I’m sitting here like I got 50 billion points. All of that with no bag.”

While many have suggested that much of James’ scoring is due to athleticism, the argument that he doesn’t have a bag falls short when watching him play. As his athleticism has slowly declined, the four-time NBA champion has reinvented his game.

Despite turning 40 in 2024-25, James continued to play at an elite level and earned second-team All-NBA honors. He averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 51.3% from the field, 37.6% from three-point range and 78.2% from the free-throw line.
