Lakers sign two-time WCC Player of the Year, son of former Warriors star after NBA Draft

The Los Angeles Lakers used their lone draft pick (No. 36 overall) to select Arkansas star forward Adou Thiero.

After the festivities ended on Thursday night, the organization elected to sign a two-time WCC Player of the Year and the son of a former Golden State Warriors star.

“Saint Mary’s PG Augustas Marčiulionis will agree to an Exhibit 10 deal with the LA Lakers,” ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported.

“The two-time WCC player of the year missed the pre-draft process with a foot injury but will be healthy in late July. Son of hall of famer Šarūnas Marčiulionis.”

Marčiulionis, whose father flourished with the Warriors in the late 90s, had a solid career at Saint Mary’s.

The Vilnius, Lithuania native not only blossomed into a well-rounded point guard who always plays off two feet and under control, but also refused to let the Gaels miss the NCAA Tournament during his four-year collegiate career.

Marčiulionis averaged 14.2 points, 5.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game as a senior, shooting 44.6% from the field and 34.7% from deep on a Saint Mary’s squad that reached the Round of 32.

For his career, the 23-year-old contributed 8.9 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.0 steals nightly, finishing with a 42.3% field shooting percentage and a 30.4% three-point shooting percentage.

By signing an Exhibit 10 contract, a one-year minimum salary agreement that isn’t guaranteed, Marčiulionis will be forced to start at the bottom and work his way up if he wants to have a future in the big leagues.
