Lakers reportedly interested in trading for 2nd-best player on Warriors 2022 championship roster

The Golden State Warriors traded Andrew Wiggins to the Miami Heat in a deal involving Jimmy Butler during the trade deadline last season.

For the Warriors, this was certainly not an easy deal to make, considering Wiggins was a key part of their championship run just a few years ago. Unfortunately for Wiggins, however, Butler has proven in his career that he can make plays in the playoffs, perhaps one of the top performers in the NBA.

Now with the Heat, Wiggins finds himself in a somewhat strange situation in his career. Some believe that he has an opportunity to be a trade piece over the next few months, while others think Miami will continue its ways of trying to compete.

Lakes could land former Warriors standout

Regardless of what happens, Marc Stein reported that the Los Angeles Lakers are a team showing interest in him if the Heat are willing to trade him.

“Wiggins, 30, will earn $28.2 million this season and holds a $30.2 million player option for 2026-27. I wouldn’t have classified him as a potential purple-and-gold target before Dončić’s long-term future was secured, but things are different now. So my sense is that the Lakers would have interest if the Heat, in coming weeks or months, decide to prioritize financial flexibility and look to reduce payroll,” he wrote.

Wiggins in Los Angeles would be a clean fit, even if it’s for the fact that he can defend the other team’s best player on every given night.

His offensive game has been up and down for parts of his career, which wasn’t often said during his time in Golden State.

It’ll likely come down to what Miami wants to do with its roster, as some continue to question what the Heat’s future looks like.
