Lakers’ LeBron, Bronny James deny allegations made in lawsuit involving 2022 car crash

The Los Angeles Lakers’ historic father-son duo of LeBron James and his son Bronny James were recently named in a vehicular lawsuit for their alleged involvement in a car crash in 2022. The pair immediately denied all allegations made.

“Attorneys representing LeBron James and his son Bronny have denied, ‘each and every allegation’ made in a lawsuit filed in October alleging their involvement in a 2022 car crash outside of Los Angeles,” ESPN’s Baxter Holmes wrote Tuesday evening.

“The lawsuit, filed by April Almanza Lopez and Kiara Rae McGillen, claimed that James and his 20-year-old son — teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers — crashed into them in November 2022 on a highway in Littlerock, California.”

“Lopez and McGillen said they suffered undisclosed injuries that require ongoing treatment and that their vehicle was damaged and depreciated. They seek unspecified damages to be determined at trial.”

In James’ 22-year NBA career, he had been relatively free of off-court issues or negative off-court publicity, making the recent allegations against he and his son extremely surprising.

At 40 years old, the four-time NBA champion and league MVP is averaging 24.7 points, 8.8 assists and 7.7 rebounds for a Lakers team situated as the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference with a 34-21 record.

While LeBron was selected to his 21st All-Star Game this season, his son and the Lakers’ No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny, had recently shown rapid improvement as a rookie for the South Bay Lakers of the G-League, averaging 22.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in six appearances for the team.

Moving forward, it remains unknown if a future trial will coincide with the Lakers’ season or potential playoff run.
