Trade rumors have begun to heat up as the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline approaches, and the Los Angeles Lakers have been in a fair share of them.
Los Angeles has had a solid start to the season as they currently sit sixth in the Western Conference standings with a 17-13 record. Anthony Davis and LeBron James have carried the load and have placed the Lakers in a great spot, but the rest of their roster needs to improve if they want to win another championship this season.
Because of this, Los Angeles is expected to be very active in the trade market before the Feb. 6 trade deadline. They have been linked to many players around the NBA including Cameron Johnson, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma, but they could add another superstar by trading for De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings.
The Kings have struggled this season as their new big three of Fox, DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis have not worked well together. With the Kings outside of the playoff picture, there have been recent reports that Fox could ask out.
Fox has already turned down a contract extension with Sacramento as he looks to see what the Kings’ future holds and whether they will be competitive. Sacramento has lost five consecutive games and Fox and the Kings may be growing apart amid their recent skid.
If Fox does ask out, expect the Lakers to be in on him. They could send D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, Jalen Hood-Schifino and two future first-round picks to Sacramento for Fox in a potential trade.
This trade works well for both sides as the Kings would acquire Russell and Hachimura who would both immediately make an impact in their rotation. Russell would take over point guard duties from Fox while Hachimura would likely come off the bench.
For the Lakers, they have lacked a star point guard for a while now, but that would change by acquiring Fox. The 27-year-old is a great scorer and playmaker who would fit well in a lineup net to LeBron and Davis. He is also an underrated defender and is one of the fastest players in the NBA.
While the Lakers would give up a ton to acquire him, he would make an immediate impact as Los Angeles tries to win their 18th title this season.
