In 2023, the New York Jets traded for four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and expected him to be their starting quarterback, but four snaps into his first year with Gang Green, he suffered a torn Achilles that ended his season.
While he returned in 2024, things weren’t much better, as the team finished with a 5-12 record and fired head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas midseason.
After releasing Rodgers earlier this offseason, the Jets signed former first-round pick Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal to be their new starter. However, they haven’t added many weapons in the last month for him to throw to.
So far, they’ve swapped out Davante Adams, Tyler Conklina and Kenny Yeboah for Josh Reynolds, Tyler Johnson and Stone Smartt, which would probably be considered a downgrade by most.
Luckily, there’s still time for New York to make a splash, and Pro Football and Sports Network recently identified the Jets as a potential landing spot for tight end Kyle Pitts in a trade before the 2025 season starts.
Pitts, 24, played collegiately at Florida from 2018-20, earning All-SEC honors twice, All-American honors once and a John Mackey Award during his time with the Gators.

The Atlanta Falcons selected Pitts in the first round (No. 4 overall) of the 2021 NFL draft and while he made the Pro Bowl as a rookie, he hasn’t exactly lived up to expectations thus far.
In his four seasons, Pitts has caught 196 passes for 2,651 yards and 10 touchdowns. Last year alone, he recorded 47 receptions for 602 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus gave him a 59.6 overall grade for his performance, ranking him 33rd out of 37 tight ends in 2024. He also earned a 63.9 receiving grade, good for 29th.
Pitts is still an athletic freak at tight end and playing in an offense with a mobile quarterback like Fields could help unlock his full potential.
2025 is Pitts’ final year under contract, as he’s playing on the fifth-year option. If Atlanta doesn’t have plans of keeping him around beyond this year, they may be willing to move on and get some draft capital or a player at another position of need.
