Kvaratskhelia rejects ‘Serie A insider’ talk ahead of Champions League final

PSG winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has dismissed suggestions that his past Serie A experience gives his side any special advantage over Inter Milan ahead of the UEFA Champions League final.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia during PSG’s media day, the former Napoli star, who joined PSG in January for €70 million [$79m] acknowledged Inter’s strength but was quick to deflect attention from himself.

“They [PSG] don’t need my help—they watch the games and they’re better than me,” Kvaratskhelia said.

“I can share a few things since I’ve played against them so many times; I know how strong they are.”

The 24-year-old Georgian has hit the ground running in Paris, notching six goals and five assists in 22 matches across Ligue 1 and Europe with his impact one of the central to PSG’s run to the final, a milestone he believes has come sooner than expected.

“When I signed, I never imagined I’d reach a Champions League final so quickly. I’m happy to be here and to have this opportunity—it’s like a dream.”

“I’ll always carry Georgia with me—it gave me everything. I’m proud to be Georgian, and I want to help my country, because it’s hard for a Georgian player to make it in a top European league.”

“It’s been a very long journey. I’ve overcome difficult moments, and that’s hugely important in a footballer’s career,”

Kvaratskhelia will want to change his stats against Inter Milan

Georgian hasn’t cracked the Inter Milan code yet. According to Transfermarkt, Kvaratskhelia has failed to score against Inter in six meetings, all came with his time at Napoli.

The win/loss stats also don’t make for a great viewing either, he has registered just one win, two draws, and three defeats. Despite flashes of brilliance, Inter’s structure has kept him quiet.

As PSG prepares for the Champions League final, Kvaratskhelia will be desperate to change that record, shake off the Inter curse, and stamp his mark on the biggest stage of his career.
