Kounde renews until 2030 | Sporting News

FC Barcelona have announced that standout French right back Jules Kounde has agreed to renew his contract with the Catalan giants until 2030.

Kounde still had two years left in his contract, but his standout performances have made the Blaugrana club eager to act swiftly and lock the 26-year-old down for the future.

This makes another core player Barcelona have tied down for the future as they’ve renewed Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Pedri, and Raphinha this year.

The French international was initially bought in 2022 for 50 million euros from Sevilla for his talents at centre back, but has grown into the right back position each season and has become an undisputed starter for Barcelona.

He’s guaranteed his place at right back and may get some time in his natural position  with the departure of Iñigo Martinez this season.

Kounde had said that his renewal was in place several weeks ago, but it seemed like registrations and signings took priority over the extension.

Kounde has been a popular player at Barcelona and truly ingrained himself with the Blaugrana faithful with his heroic goal in the Copa del Rey final

Now Barcelona can put to rest any rumors of Premier League interest and can focus on signings and meeting fair player regulations. It is unknown whether the renewal will be favorable for Barcelona complying with fair play rules.

As for Kounde, he’s likely to get the start against Mallorca and will look to celebrate his renewal with a win to start the season.
