The New York Knicks are giving a two-year contract to a 39-year-old former NBA champion.
The Knicks signed this player to two separate 10-day contracts in March but released him on Sunday, March 30.
On Monday, PJ Tucker signed a longer-term deal with New York, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
“After two 10-day contracts, the New York Knicks are planning to sign veteran forward PJ Tucker to a two-year deal, sources tell ESPN,” Charania posted to X on Monday night.
“Tucker will return to the Knicks through the season and playoffs, with a team option for 2025-26.”
The dollar figure for Tucker’s contract has not yet been announced.
Tucker has only played two minutes for the Knicks so far in 2025. The tough-as-nails forward won a title in 2021 with the Milwaukee Bucks and has also played with the LA Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, and Toronto Raptors, who drafted Tucker at No. 35 overall out of Texas in the 2006 NBA draft.
Between 2007 and 2012, Tucker played for various teams overseas. He was named Israeli Super League MVP in 2008.
In 14 NBA seasons and counting, Tucker has provided teams with his ability to guard five positions, rebound against far bigger opponents, and hit timely shots; in essence — a winning player.
The Knicks entered Monday with a 47-27 record, third place in the Eastern Conference with a four-game cushion above the fourth-place Indiana Pacers.
New York is hoping to get All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson back on the floor before the playoffs as he recovers from an ankle injury.
