Knicks sign former 7-foot Lakers center to support Karl-Anthony Towns

There’s no question that Karl-Anthony Towns could use more help in the low post next season.

On Tuesday, the New York Knicks provided the dynamic five-time All-Star with a potential 2025-26 frontcourt partner, as the organization signed a 7-foot former Los Angeles Lakers center to its roster.

“The Knicks are signing veteran center Alex Len to a deal for training camp,” The New York Post’s Stefan Bondy reported Tuesday. “The 32-year-old former Terp played with the (Sacramento) Kings and Lakers last season.”

Len started the 2024-25 campaign with the Kings, but the franchise traded him to the Washington Wizards on the final day of the trade season (Feb. 6).

However, the Wizards waived the Maryland product five days after the deal, leaving him without an NBA gig for the second half of the year.

Fortunately for Len, the Lakers struggled mightily to replace Anthony Davis after including him in a blockbuster trade for Luka Doncic, compelling them to sign the former lottery pick for the rest of the season.

In a reserve role with the Lakers, Len averaged 2.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, shooting 45.5% from the field in 10 contests.

Although Len has failed to live up to expectations as a highly regarded 2013 NBA Draft prospect, he may have enough left in the tank to play serviceable basketball with the Knicks in Year 13.
