Knicks should fire Tom Thibodeau in favor of ‘another voice,’ analyst says

Everyone’s wondering what changes (if any) the New York Knicks will make this offseason.

Could the Knicks make a blockbuster trade involving Karl-Anthony Towns?

Could the Knicks fire head coach Tom Thibodeau?

Yahoo’s Kevin O’Connor brought up the latter question on Monday during a new episode of The Kevin O’Connor Show.

“Do you think they should fire Thibs?” O’Connor asked guest Casey Powell, a.k.a. NBA analyst CP The Fanchise.

“I think they could use another voice,” Powell replied.

“If this team is gonna be locked into this core, I’d like to see if there’s another voice that can maximize the talent that (they) have.”

“Thibs right now looks like he’s got way too much control over everything, and (he’s) not necessarily deferring or consulting with a capable assistant right there on the bench.”

“They need an offensive coordinator to get the most out of Brunson and Towns,” Powell continued.

“The Pacers’ pressure defense really exposed the Knick’s lack of ball handling, lack of shot creating, and really kept the (Knicks’) offense one dimensional.”

“They should have been playing through Towns a lot more, and I’d like to see an offensive coordinator … emphasize player movement, ball movement, and kind of getting the ball out of Jalen Brunson’s hands to maximize everybody else.”

“I just didn’t see it there with Thibs.”

“On top of that … the rotation decisions were quite questionable.”

“In Game 6, how do you have Mitchell Robinson (on the bench) … in the fourth quarter when you’re looking to get stops?”

Thibodeau, 67, has coached the Knicks for five seasons. Thibs has gone 226-174 (.565) in the regular season and 24-23 (.511) in the playoffs.

If the Knicks did move on from Thibodeau, his stellar reputation league-wide would allow him to find another NBA head coaching job right away.
