New York Knicks rookie forward Mohamed Diawara could be in position for some playing time in his first NBA season.
SNY’s Ian Begley believes that Diawara showed enough promise throughout the Summer League to be awarded with a two-way contract from the Knicks after a very strong showing.
“He had some really strong stretches in Summer League,” Begley said. “A two-way deal would give Diawara a great opportunity to spend some time with the big club while getting game reps in Westchester.”
Diawara was drafted 51st overall in this year’s NBA Draft by the Knicks. He spent the previous four years playing overseas in France. Last season with Cholet Basket, he averaged 5.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.
The 6-foot-9 forward has been lauded for his two-way ability, and his high athleticism. He was awfully impressive in Summer League, averaging 7.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in four appearances.
The Knicks could use Diawara as frontcourt depth for next season. While he likely won’t see a significant role in the team’s rotation, spending a year with the big league team while also developing his skill set in the G-League could be beneficial for him going forward.
