The New York Knicks made just one selection in the NBA Draft, but have just made another addition following the event.
Friday, the Knicks and G-League guard Dink Pate agreed to a deal, per Jonathan Givony of ESPN. Pate became the youngest professional basketball player in U.S. history two years ago when he signed with the G-League Ignite when he was only 17-years-old. The 6-7 forward has plenty of upside, and has been compared to defensive-minded wings such as OG Anunoby, and Amen and Ausar Thompson.
Pate played last season for the Mexico City Capitanes in the G-League. He appeared in 34 games (all starts) and averaged 10.1 points, and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Per SNY’s Ian Begley, Pate will be joining the Knicks in Vegas as a Summer League invite. The Knicks will kick off their Summer League schedule on July 11 against the Detroit Pistons.
Pate was seen as a potential first-round prospect last year, but was denied entry to the draft due to his age. Now in 2025, the Knicks may have just gotta themselves a steal on the undrafted free agent market.
Pate will join Mohamed Diawara, who the Knicks selected with the 51st overall pick in this year’s draft, at Summer League as they look to earn a roster spot for next season. The Knicks still do not currently have a head coach after firing Tom Thibodeau on June 3, and the pair’s chances of earning playing time will likely depend on who the Knicks decide to hire.
