The New York Knicks were so close. They were just a few wins away from stamping their ticket to the team’s first NBA Finals since 1999. Unfortunately, they fell short, fired their head coach, and now Knicks trade rumors are at an all-time high. One dream scenario would be landing another superstar to pair with Jalen Brunson to lead the team to the promise land. That’s why some Kevin Durant trade ideas have sent the disgruntled Phoenix Suns star to the Big Apple. Now, recent Knicks news from an NBA insider confirms some of these Knicks trade rumors.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that a Knicks-Durant trade could happen in the upcoming weeks.
Windhorst believes that the Knicks will be one of the teams that is likely to pursue Durant. However, this doesn’t mean much because almost every team has created their own Kevin Durant trade ideas over the last few weeks.
Still, this Knicks trade rumor could have a bit more likelihood of happening than some others.
Durant has long been linked to New York, famously choosing the Brooklyn Nets over the Knicks when he left Golden State in 2019. That being said, back then, the Knicks organization was in a much worse place. Now the Knicks are coming off multiple successful seasons with deep playoff runs, and a Knicks-Durant trade could be the final move to make them true contenders.
Durant may very well want to play for the Knicks. Unfortunately, the issue with Windhorst’s Knicks news is that New York has very limited assets to offer Phoenix in a potential trade.
The Knicks have already gotten rid of most of their future picks to obtain Miles Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns. And trading either of those players to Phoenix wouldn’t excite Suns management all that much.

The Knicks also don’t have any exciting young players that the Suns could develop into a star.
So maybe this Durant-Knicks trade rumor is true, but don’t expect Durant back in New York at the start of next season. There are too many other teams with valuable assets to offer the Suns.
