Knicks’ Mikal Bridges predicted to make $296 million decision

The New York Knicks have been in the midst of an interesting offseason, and things are about to get busier.

After firing Tom Thibodeau in the wake of losing in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Knicks have spent nearly a month looking for his replacement. Thus far, the team has had no luck, despite looking at candidates from a variety of different situations.

While the coaching search still appears to be at the top of the Knicks’ offseason priority list, they will soon have to shift to looking at their roster. With free agency just around the corner, the Knicks will have some decisions to make.

Sure, the team will need to make some moves around the edges, but New York’s core is still intact ahead of next season. However, the Knicks might soon need to make some more deals to ensure that core is still there for the long term.

This offseason, Mikal Bridges is eligible for an extension that the Knicks seem destined to offer him. However, a recent Bleacher Report article suggests that the Knicks might not be able to lock up Bridges this summer.

If Bridges signed an extension this offseason, he could get up to four years and $156 million. Yet, if he waits one more year, he could potentially secure a $296 million deal.

With plenty of suitors potentially in the mix to compete against the Knicks and drive up his value next summer in unrestricted free agency, it seems like an obvious choice for Bridges. In any case, Bridges will be looking to help the Knicks compete for a title next season, and his performance could force New York to offer a deal he can’t refuse.
