The New York Knicks and Mikal Bridges have reached an agreement on a four-year, $150 million contract extension, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The agreement finally answers the question on if Bridges would extend with the Knicks this offseason. He leaves a considerable amount of money on the table by signing this offseason instead of waiting for free agency next summer.
Bridges was acquired by the Knicks from the Brooklyn Nets last summer in exchange for a whopping five first-round picks, and several players. In his first season with the team, he averaged 17.6 points per game, and shot 50 percent from the field.
His signature Knicks moments perhaps came in the team’s second-round matchup with the Boston Celtics, when Bridges made game-winning defensive plays in both Games 1 and 2 to give the Knicks a commanding 2-0 series lead. The Knicks would go on to beat the Celtics in six games.
Bridges will now remain with the team for the forseeable future, and be a key part of the Knicks’ quest for an NBA championship. The question now becomes what the Knicks will do about Mitchell Robinson, who is also due for an extension. The decision made on Bridges could have a major impact on Robinson’s future with the club.
