Knicks’ Jalen Brunson says his mentality hasn’t wavered despite new leadership

Jalen Brunson has been instrumental in the New York Knicks’ strong 2-0 start to the season despite plenty of new changes that came his way this season.

The star point guard of the Knicks spent much of his offseason and training camp learning an entirely new offensive system after former head coach Tom Thibodeau was replaced by Mike Brown. Going from a defensive-minded coach — especially one that helped him grow into a perennial All-NBA level talent — to an offensive guru is no easy task, but Brunson has handled it well so far.

Brunson scored 23 points and notched five assists in the Knicks’ season-opening win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, and scored a team-high 31 points on 10-20 shooting in the team’s latest victory over the Boston Celtics. The captain of the Knicks has been his typical All-Star self so far in the early going of the season.

After the win, Brunson told reporters about the changes that have been made this season, and how his mentality has remained stable in spite of that.

“Playing basketball schematically has changed a little bit, but my mentality will never,” Brunson said after the Knicks’ 105-95 win over the Celtics. “If that changes it’s time to think otherwise.”

Brunson and the Knicks will look to continue their hot start when they travel to Miami for a matchup with the Heat on Sunday as they go for a 3-0 start to the season.
