The New York Knicks have experimented with two different lineups already through the team’s first two games, and so far it’s paid dividends.
Head coach Mike Brown has utilized two different starting lineups so far in the team’s wins over the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics to start the season. Against Cleveland, New York started Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Ariel Hukporti. Against the Celtics, they opted to replace Hukporti with Miles McBride, and start Towns at center.
The results: Back-to-back victories, and a 2-0 start to the season for the Knicks.
It’s a vastly different feel than the previous few years with Tom Thibodeau at the helm, who would notoriously stick with the same exact starting unit for extended periods of time, sometimes too long. Brown told SNY’s Ian Begley about his game plan towards lineup construction after the win against the Celtics.
“If I feel that we need to match up, I may go (to a specific starting five),” Brown said. “If I feel that we don’t, I may go (to a different lineup)….I have a lot of confidence in this entire roster, so we can start a lot of different ways.”
The Knicks will look to make it three wins in a row to start the season when they travel to Miami for a matchup with the Heat on Sunday.
