It’s almost guaranteed that the Phoenix Suns will be moving on from Kevin Durant this summer.
After it was seemingly confirmed that barring a change of heart, Giannis Antetokounmpo will be returning to the Milwaukee Bucks for the 2025-2026 season.
With Giannis likely staying put, it’s now the summer of Kevin Durant…will it be one of his reported preferred landing spots in the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, or Houston Rockets? Or will a mystery team enter the mix and blow the Suns away with a package they can’t refuse?
ESPN’s Marc Spears is the latest NBA insider to report on the Durant sweepstakes, noting that despite the 15-time All-Star’s newfound interest in the New York Knicks, the Eastern Conference runner ups are not interested in securing his services.
“KD wanted the New York Knicks,” Spears said. “He wanted to go there…the Knicks have no interest in bringing him in, which probably makes Knicks nation…I don’t know, probably quite interested in why not. I think these three choices (Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets) are by default because he definitely doesn’t want to go to Minnesota.”
Spears went on to say Durant and his camp, including his business partner, Rich Kleiman are hoping the Suns respect his wishes on sending him to one of his preferred destinations considering his age and will perhaps be the final team he plays for during his Hall of Fame career.
“But I think there’s some fear from him and Rich Kleiman that they’re hoping that there’s going to be some respect for Kevin’s age and to give him what he wants, rather then try and trade him like he’s 31-years old, which he’s not anymore. I think they’re trying to get a major haul, but they’re hoping that they work with him and get it done.”

Despite nearing 37-years old, Durant proved to still be one of the NBA’s premier scorers this past season, averaging 26.6 points per contest, despite playing alongside a pair of volume scorers in Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
