Knicks free agent big man drawing interest from Eastern Conference rival

The New York Knicks have one final roster spot available as they look to round out their roster ahead of the 2025-26 season, and reports indicate they’re looking to add a guard to solidify their backcourt.

That’s bad news for free agent forward/center Precious Achiuwa, who has spent the last two years of his career in New York.

However, the former 20th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft may not have to wait long for his next team.

Miami Heat Reportedly Interested in Signing Precious Achiuwa

According to a report from Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, the Miami Heat are interested in a reunion with their former draft pick.

The Memphis product has been a serviceable role player for the Knicks since coming over in December 2023’s trade with the Toronto Raptors that shipped out Immanuel Quickley and R.J. Barrett for OG Anunoby, Malachi Flynn, and Achiuwa.

Achiuwa re-signed with New York last Summer and was a valuable piece off the bench, appearing in 57 games while center Mitchell Robinson recovered from injury.

After contributing 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in his final year with the Knicks, New York pivoted to former Philadelphia 76ers big man Guerschon Yabusele, who will be the primary backup behind centers Karl-Anthony Towns and Robinson.

Achiuwa will certainly find himself a new home ahead of the 2025-26 season, whether that’s in Miami or somewhere else, but the 25-year-old certainly has the potential to be a key rotational piece as he displayed with the Knicks for the last two seasons.
