Knicks denied permission to interview Dallas Mavericks’ assistant

The New York Knicks have once again been denied permission by the Dallas Mavericks.

On Sunday, Stefan Bondy of the New York Post reported that the Knicks requested, and were denied permission from the Mavericks to interview Jay Triano for their associate head coach position.

“He would’ve been a natural fit after serving as Brown’s top assistant and offensive coordinator in Sacramento last season,” Bondy wrote.

Triano has been an assistant coach in the NBA since 2002, spending time with the Phoenix Suns, Toronto Raptors, Charlotte Hornets, and Sacramento Kings.

Per Bondy, the timing of the Knicks’ played a factor in the Mavericks’ decision. Triano was hired by the Mavericks just last month. New York was also denied permission from the New Orleans Pelicans to interview James Borrego for the same position.

This now marks the second instance of the Mavericks denying the Knicks permission to speak with one of their coaches. Upon firing Tom Thibodeau, the Knicks immediately requested permission to speak with Jason Kidd, but were ultimately denied.
