Knicks could swap Josh Hart for $30 million wing, reliable center via stunning trade

Following their elimination at the hands of the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 Eastern Conference Finals, an unpredictable summer awaits the New York Knicks.

The Knicks’ surprising decision to relieve ex-head coach Tom Thibodeau of his duties on June 3 set the tone for the next few months, as more change could soon be on the horizon.

This offseason’s trade market is sure to be a wild one, and the Knicks likely won’t be shy about getting involved and aiming to save money in the process. With that being said, it’s plausible that the franchise may be open to shopping a name like Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby or Josh Hart.

In fact, the latter of the trio could serve as a fantastic supporting piece on any contender in the NBA thanks to his versatile skillset and undying hustle. As a result, his abilities could entice a team like the Los Angeles Clippers, who proved to be a tough out in the 2025 NBA Playoffs.

If the Clippers begin to appear desperate to land a game-changer that can help the aging tandem of James Harden and Kawhi Leonard compete for a title in a loaded Western Conference, it’s possible that an offer of Derrick Jones Jr., Drew Eubanks and draft capital might be enough for the Knicks’ front office to shake hands on a transaction.

This trade, while unlikely, could interest New York on multiple fronts.

By dealing away Hart in return for Eubanks’ expiring salary and Jones Jr.’s relatively cheap $30 million contract which expires in 2026-27, the Knicks would sink below the first tax apron.

Though Hart is an extremely impactful and multi-faceted talent, the 28-year-old Jones Jr. has emerged as one of the most valued 3-and-D wings in the league.

The explosive 6-foot-5 combo-forward proved his worth during his first season with the Clippers in 2024-25, as he contributed 10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals while knocking down a career-best 35.6% of his looks from three-point range in 77 appearances.

Jones Jr. is an uber-athletic, lengthy and switch-able forward that can make a real impact alongside Bridges and Anunoby on the defensive end, and his improved distance shooting is an added bonus.

Seeing Hart depart for Los Angeles would certainly sting, but the addition of Jones Jr. and another body in the frontcourt in Eubanks could pay dividends for the Knicks both on the court and in the wallet.
