The big offseason rumors with the Knicks will likely center around Karl-Anthony Towns.
But there are other moves certain to be made, and one involves a different New York big guy.
After a solid season as a backup, Precious Achiuwa is an unrestricted free agent. He averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
At 25 years old, Achiuwa can be a solid pickup for a team in need of interior depth.
For multiple reasons, as SI’s Declan Harris lays out, the Philadelphia 76ers would make a lot of sense.
As we all know, 76ers star center Joel Embiid isn’t the most durable guy in the league.
Add onto that a reunion with Achiuwa’s former Raptors coach Nick Nurse, and there’s a lot to like about the fit.
“This would come in handy given that one of the Sixers’ current backup centers, Andre Drummond, isn’t guaranteed to be in South Philadelphia next season, as his contract contains a player option for the 2025-26 season,” Harris writes.
“All in all, Achiuwa might not be the flashiest name that will feature in the upcoming free agency window, however he is a quality piece that can come in off of the bench, which can be backed up by the resume he’s built over the past five seasons,” Harris added.
Achiuwa would also get the chance to clash with the Knicks a bunch of times next season if he takes the rather short free agency trip to Philly.
There’s a month or so until free agency gets rolling, but Achiuwa’s name already looks like it’d fit rather nicely with the Sixers.
