Kirill Kaprizov could replace New York Rangers star in massive move

As the rumor mill swirls over the future of Minnesota’s Kirill Kaprizov, the noise has been quieter regarding Artemi Panarin in New York.

The fellow Russian star also enters this upcoming season needing an extension by next summer. There has not been much noise on progress made towards a new deal.

If Panarin were to not extend with New York, the Rangers could have a massive deal in the works depending on how contract talks go with Kirill Kaprizov.

Why is New York linked to Kaprizov?

Via insider Jeff Marek, he sees the future possibility of Kirill Kaprizov replacing Artemi Panarin in New York depending on how this season develops.

The New York Rangers have already been one of the teams most heavily linked to “Kirill the Thrill” with the name dropped in various reports as one that is eying the sensational forward. A Kaprizov signing would make sense for New York if Panarin were to leave, he would easily replace his production and some. Plus the Rangers should have the cap space available in that scenario to make a move.

On the flip side there is the question at hand of how appealing joining the Rangers would be for Kaprizov without Panarin there. Not only is he the current top player on the team, but the “Bread Man” is known to be good friends with Kaprizov. Playing with Panarin in New York could be more of the draw for Kaprizov, but how would the Rangers be able to make that cap situation work?
