Kings predicted to trade Malik Monk for 41.3% three-point shooter, draft picks

The Sacramento Kings haven’t finished making offseason moves. They’ve shown interest in a Jonathan Kuminga sign and trade and are supposedly trying to sign Russell Westbrook. There have also been countless Kings trade rumors trying to figure out just what exactly this team is going to look like next season.

One player who has been in multiple Kings trade rumors is Malik Monk. A Monk trade would allow the Kings to change their already crowded shooting guard position. Trading Monk for a wing or big man would help balance out the Kings’ roster.

This Malik Monk trade idea would do exactly that. The proposed Kings trade looks like this:

Los Angeles Lakers Receive: Malik Monk

Sacramento Kings Receive: Rui Hachimura, 2031 Los Angeles Lakers first-round pick, 2032 Los Angeles Lakers second-round pick

This would be an ideal trade for the Kings. They’d pick up a solid role player who could provide size and shooting to their roster. Hachimura, while not the same playmaker as Monk, is actually a much better three-point shooter. With Sabonis and DeRozan creating a crowded paint for the Kings’ offense, getting a stretch four like Hachimura would be ideal.

The Lakers’ 2031 draft pick is also a great pickup for the Kings. While the Lakers project to be a playoff team as long as Luka is on the roster, he isn’t currently under contract until 2031. That Lakers pick could become quite valuable down the line. Even if it doesn’t, it is another asset the Kings could use to make other necessary moves to round out their roster.

Trading Malik Monk isn’t ideal. He has been a key piece of the Kings’ roster the last few seasons. Still, while they have Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan expected to play heavy minutes, Monk is expendable. This Lakers-Malik Monk trade could get the Kings some decent value for their fan-favorite guard.
