Kings have considered trading promising 22 year old defenseman

Brandt Clarke is one of the more promising young defenseman in the NHL. The 22 year old is coming off a solid first opening season in the NHL having recorded 5 goals and 28 assists for 33 points in 78 games this past year. 

The 2021 Los Angeles 1st round draft pick has been expected to be a future pillar of the Kings blueline for years to come, especially with the career of Kings legend Drew Doughty winding down. 

It is curious why the Kings would even consider moving Clarke, considering his potential to be their next top defenseman. The Kings current D core is not exactly young with 4 of their current top 6 defenseman over the age of 30. 

What is the latest on Brandt Clarke? 

With that being said, Clarke has been featured in trade rumors of late particularly over the summer. Via Michael Russo, the Kings have reportedly considering moving the young defenseman this offseason. However, new LA GM Ken Holland wants to monitor Clarke during the season and see his progression before he makes a decision on this front. 

We’ll see what choice the Kings make on this regard, much of it will have to do with how Clarke looks with the team this upcoming season as Holland access’s what the team needs to make a proper playoff run, having lost in the 1st round to the Oilers the last 4 seasons. 

Over the course of his 3 year career with the Kings, Clarke has amassed 7 goals and 34 assists for 41 points in 103 regular season games. In the playoffs, he has tallied 2 goals in 6 games.
