It’s Game 7 Sunday.
This day was meant to be about the Oklahoma City Thunder, taking on the Indiana Pacers. It was a chance to take a historical look back at the last NBA Finals Game 7, that epic 2016 Warriors and Cavaliers clash.
Instead, the headlines on this day feature Kevin Durant’s name.
This is in no way an attempt to blame KD. The timing is just incredibly ironic.
Think about all that 2016 meant to Durant. The former Seattle draft pick moved to Oklahoma City with the Thunder, but they could never hoist the championship trophy.
That 2016 season was the final straw, for him and the Warriors. KD couldn’t get past Golden State, and the Dubs blew a 3-1 lead to the Cavs.
After that season, Durant chose to sign with the Warriors, and the rest is history.

Somehow, the small-market Thunder executed the greatest rebuild the NBA has ever seen, and they’re back in the Finals.
The Warriors were fantastic with Durant, and then he moved on to the Nets, and then the Suns, before this latest deal to the Rockets.
OKC will hope for one outcome following this deal: a Game 7 win that claims some of the spotlight back for the Thunder.
It’s not as simple for the Warriors, who probably would’ve loved an alternate universe where they had been able to trade and get Durant back.
But here we are, Game 7 Sunday, and now also the day that Durant got traded, again.
