The Suns are approaching a full-on rebuild. They tried the super team angle, and it didn’t amount to anything. Phoenix is expected to lean into a full reset with a new head coach and with stars Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal likely to be on the move.
Durant has been in the league since 2007 when he was drafted with the second overall pick by the Thunder (then SuperSonics). Over the last 18 seasons, he has played for the Thunder, Warriors, Nets and Suns. Durant joined Phoenix in 2023 when he was traded from Brooklyn with T.J. Warren for Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, Jae Crowder, four unprotected first-round picks, and a 2028 first-round pick swap.
Durant surpassed the 30,000 career points mark on February 11, 2025. Even though he will turn 37 years old ahead of the 2025-26 season, he is expected to retain trade value still and make a difference wherever he lands.

Teams across the NBA have been informed that Durant is willing to sign a long-term deal with three teams. The star forward prefers to land with the Spurs, Heat or Rockets.
Durant deal ‘could happen in the next few days’
During a Friday appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Shams Charania provided the latest on a KD deal, saying that there’s a chance a deal happens in the “next few days.”
“There is some serious traction on conversation, on trade scenarios, with the Suns. They’ve had about six-to-eight teams reach out,” Charania said. “There’s been interest, there’s been some offers, there’s been some negotiations.”
Charania also listed three teams that have especially been in the focus over the last two days: the Rockets, Heat and Timberwolves.
“Those are the three teams right now where a lot of the focus for Durant lies,” Charania said.
Teams are ‘motivated to get a deal done sooner rather than later’
Trade talks involving Durant are “gaining traction,” per Charania, with teams “motivated” to get a deal done imminently. The Suns are most focused on dealings with the Rockets, Timberwolves, Spurs, Knicks, and Heat, though there are “wild card suitors.”

Kevin Durant expected to sign massive two-year extension wherever he lands
The expectation is that when Durant is traded, he will sign a two-year, $120 million extension. That factor will definitely play a part in discussions. The forward is set to make $54.7 million in the 2025-26 season, and then the projected extension would give him $57.3 million for the 2026-27 season and $62.7 million in 2027-28.
Could a deal for Durant already be done?
The NBA is currently in the midst of the 2025 NBA Finals between the Thunder and the Pacers. NBA analyst Bill Simmons has an interesting theory. He thinks that the NBA doesn’t want to take away from its Finals that is already featuring two mid-market teams, and that the deal for Durant to the Spurs is already done.
Durant expected to have four-to-six teams interested
Phoenix hired former Cavaliers assistant head coach Jordan Ott as its new head coach. Charania reported that Devin Booker played a big part in the selection, suggesting he will be retained. The ESPN analyst also said that Durant is expected to have four to six teams interested.
