Kevin Durant has found his new NBA home for the 2025-26 season and possibly beyond.
On Sunday, the Suns agreed to trade Durant to the Rockets, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Phoenix acquired Durant ahead of the 2023 trade deadline, and he exits the Valley of the Sun after appearing in 145 regular-season games with the Suns. The Suns advanced to the playoffs twice during Durant’s time there, but won just one series.
While Durant performed at an All-Star level in 2024-25, Phoenix’s season was marred by injuries. The team failed to qualify for the postseason with a 36-46 record. Trading Durant signifies the continuation of a large-scale shift in another direction.
Here is everything to know about the deal that sends the two-time Finals MVP to the Rockets.

- Jalen Green
- Dillon Brooks
- 2025 first-round pick (No. 10 overall)
- Five second-round draft picks (years TBD)
The Durant sweepstakes came to a swift and sudden end on Sunday, with Houston formally acquiring his services in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and six draft picks, including the No. 10 selection in the 2025 draft.
At 37 years old, Durant is one of the league’s oldest talents. Still, he remains as productive as ever, tallying 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists on 52.7/43.0/83.9 shooting splits in 2024-25. Durant has averaged 25 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three in three straight seasons, the longest such streak in league history. He figures to give the Rockets elite isolation scoring, a useful trait given Houston’s struggles in that aspect.
The Rockets also figure to benefit from Durant’s relationship with head coach Ime Udoka. The Houston taskmaster overlapped with Durant during stints in Brooklyn as well as USA Basketball. Udoka recently agreed to a multi-year extension with the Rockets.
MORE KEVIN DURANT TRADE NEWS:
Houston faced stiff competition to secure Durant’s services. The Spurs and Heat are in the running, as were a host of other “dark horses”, per Charania, including the Nuggets, Timberwolves and Cavaliers. Charania reported that Miami sent multiple offers to Phoenix’s front office, including one that featured Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, Haywood Highsmith, the Heat’s No. 20 pick in the 2025 draft and other draft capital. It was summarily rejected in favor of the Rockets’ proposal.
Durant’s current contract expires upon the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign. He’s eligible for a two-year extension after the trade.

Kevin Durant career timeline
Durant has embraced movement over the course of his near two-decade career. He’s worn five jerseys since making his big-league debut in 2007. Each of his past four have come on his own terms, too.
Here’s a look back at the various stops Durant has made during his career.
SuperSonics/Thunder — 2007-2016
Durant’s first stop was arguably his most memorable. He spent 10 seasons in Oklahoma City after being selected No. 2 overall in the 2007 NBA Draft.
Durant is the organization’s third all-time leading scorer and collected a treasure trove of accolades during his time in blue-and-orange, including an MVP and a trip to the NBA Finals.
Warriors — 2016-19
Durant famously spurned Oklahoma City for the Bay Area in the summer of 2016, joining the Warriors a few months after they rallied from 3-1 down to defeat Durant’s Thunder.
His decision was an inspired on. With Durant leading the charge, Golden State racked up two championships and three Finals appearances. Durant was pivotal in all three trips — he captured Finals MVP honors in 2017 and 2018. If not for an Achilles tear in the 2019 Finals, he very well could’ve landed a trifecta.
Nets — 2019-2023
Durant’s travels took him to Brooklyn, where he linked up with Kyrie Irving and James Harden for a fleeting moment. Durant didn’t actually suit up for the Nets until Dec. 2020.
Brooklyn fell short of its aims during Durant’s three-year tenure. If not for his hulking feet, perhaps that wouldn’t have been the case.
Suns — 2023-25
Harden, Irving and Durant all exited stage left after Brooklyn fell short of its title aspirations. For Durant, that meant joining the Suns via trade.
The Nets landed a decent return in exchange for Durant, fetching Cameron Johnson, Mikal Bridges and an assortment of first round picks. Phoenix hoped Durant’s acquisition would bolster its championship chances. It did anything but in the end — the Suns toiled for two years before parting ways with Durant on Sunday.
