The Seattle Seahawks have a brand new offense heading into 2025.
After parting ways with several franchise playmakers and their offensive coordinator, the Seahawks have begun a new era on offense, highlighted by star quarterback Sam Darnold and wide receiver Cooper Kupp.
Through the many changes, one constant remains: Kenneth Walker III returns as the starting running back.
Entering a contract year, Walker has a lot to prove as he looks to solidify his place in the team’s future.
Gregg Bell of Tacoma News Tribune believes Walker is off to a strong start in this make-or-break year, noting that he’s healthy for training camp and impressed during Day 1.
“The most encouraging, if not conclusive, aspect of the first day of Seahawks training camp Wednesday: Kenneth Walker,” Bell said. “The lead running back’s prove-it year began with a prove-it day. He proved to be full go. Walker fully participated, and showed he is fully in the middle of new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s plans. This, after Seahawks coaches and the medical staff limited him during offseason practices in May and June. That was to preserve their starter at the sport’s most injured, worn-down position.”
Bell adds that Walker was also getting plenty of work as a pass-catcher and even “motioned out of the backfield to a wide receiver to catch more passes.”
After missing a total of 10 games over the first three years of his career, entering training camp healthy is an encouraging sign for Walker.
In his young career, Walker has rushed for over 2,500 yards and 24 touchdowns. He’s also proven to be a dependable pass-catcher out of the backfield, with 723 career receiving yards.
With new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak expected to implement a wide-zone running scheme, Walker’s elite agility and elusiveness make him a natural fit.
If the offensive line can open running lanes and Walker can stay healthy, the sky’s the limit for him in 2025.
