Justin Thomas is a fan favorite and always expected to be in contention at big golf tournaments, like this week’s Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.
If Thomas contends this week, though, he’ll have to do it in slightly unexpected fashion.
Thomas won’t have his normal caddy on the bag this week. According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, Matt Minister is dealing with “a tweaked back that is not recovering in time for this week’s tournament.”
Instead, the bag this week will be carried by Joe Greiner, and the timing is fortunate as it pertains to Greiner.
Greiner was the caddie for Max Homa until last week, when Homa made a change. Thomas “considers (Greiner) a good friend),” according to Darlington.
So needing a last-minute caddie, Thomas was able to find a recently available caddie that he already knew to fit in.

Thomas hopes to have Minister back on his bag soon, but “they just want to make sure Minister’s back gets better.”
Given Thomas’ familiarity with Augusta, he should still have a strong chance to be in contention, because he’ll still have the clubs in his potent hands.
