Julio Cesar Chavez family tree: Meet the kids, wife and more about Mexican boxing legend

When thinking of legendary boxers from Mexico, it is hard not to think of Julio Cesar Chavez. He was a multi-time world champion, spanning three weight classes and was ranked as the best pound-for-pound boxer from 1990 to 1993.

Chavez began boxing at a young age and turned professional at 17. He competed for over 25 years from 1980 to 2005. In that time, he amassed a 107-6-2 record. Chavez started at an insane clip, going 87-0 until he had his first draw against Pernell Whittaker in 1993. He didn’t suffer his first loss until he faced Frankie Randall in 1994, ending a 90-fight streak without a loss.

Chavez is considered one of the greatest boxers of all time. At various points in his career, he held the WBC super featherweight title, WBA and WBC lightweight titles and the WBC light welterweight title. He still has the records for the most total successful title defenses, the most title fight victories, and the most title fights.

Kids

Omar Chavez

Omar is the younger of the Chavez brothers. He was born on January 4, 1990, to Julio Cesar Chavez and Amalia Carrasco. Omar began attending his dad’s fights at a young age and followed in the profession. Like his dad, he began his professional boxing career at 16 years old. He has taken brief breaks over the years, but Omar is still an active boxer, last fighting against Misael Rodriguez in January 2025. He currently has an overall record of 41-9-1.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Julio Jr. was born on February 16, 1986 to Julio Sr. and Carrasco. He started his professional career when he was 17, a year after his father and brother. Chavez Jr. has a 54-6-1 career record. At the height of his career, he held the WBC middleweight title from 2012 to 2013. Chavez Jr. is set to face boxer Jake Paul in June 2025.

He and his father had a falling out when he publicly accused his father of abusing his mother, Carrasco. In 2024, Chavez Jr. took to social media and let out a lot of trauma. He said that his father forced him into treatment for his drug addiction, and accused his father of abusing his mother. “My father tore my mother to pieces, he beat her, he humiliated her, she is traumatized, she can no longer do anything. She was damaged for the rest of her life by the same guy who is damaging me, a f—— bully, who says he wants to help me.”

Nothing ever happened with any official charges, and Chavez Jr. was later admitted into a psych ward in Los Angeles.

There is a Mexican singer of this name, but it is not the same person. This Cristian Chavez has stayed relatively out of the spotlight, but is the third child of Julio Sr. and Carrasco.
