Josh Hart bloodied after incidental strike to face in Game 5 of Knicks vs. Celtics

Knicks guard Josh Hart was bloodied after an errant elbow in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Near the end of the first quarter, Hart was rising for a layup when he was on the receiving end of an elbow from Celtics center Luke Kornet. Hart fell to the ground and immediately began gushing blood from above his eye.

The contact was ruled a common foul, and Hart remained in the game to shoot free throws after Knicks officials stopped the bleeding. The bloody scene also required a uniform change for Hart.

On the play, Hart, who is in the dunker spot, receives a dropoff pass from a driving Jalen Brunson.

With Kornet attempting to quickly make a play, he raises his arms to contest Hart’s layup but makes contact with his elbow as he attempts to go vertical. Here is the play:

While the hit was unintentional, Hart began bleeding profusely almost instantly, and it was a grisly scene under the basket.

Because it was nothing more than a common foul and Hart appeared to suffer no serious injuries, his ability to stay in and shoot both free throws allowed him to remain in the game.

Hart’s profuse bleeding seemed to be nothing more than a hard hit to a soft spot during an adrenaline rush.

If there are any further injuries, this story will be updated.
