Joe Flacco will play in Week 3 of preseason, Pickett back in action in team drills

After another week of joint practice and preseason game with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Cleveland Browns move on to their final dress rehearsal game vs. the Los Angeles Rams.   At this point, there is still a ton of roster evaluation before the final cutdown, but positional coaches are starting to turn the page to prepare for the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 of the regular season.

The biggest takeaway from the Tuesday media time was the report by Tony Grossi that Flacco shared he will play in the Week 3 preseason game.  At this point, we don’t know how many snaps he will get, but it feels like the first team offense will all be on the field for at least a few snaps with the Week 1 starter.  This would be our first look at the offensive line (minus Dawand Jones), Jerry Jeudy, and David Njoku.

I would expect similar on defense, but it’s doubtful that you’ll see Denzel Ward or Myles Garrett, who are too valuable to lose and likely don’t need a lot of work to be ready for the season.  It would have been great to see these starters a little more in the preseason before Week 3 for fans, but most of these guys got plenty of reps in joint practice, which is equally as good.

Kevin Stefanski also shared on Tuesday that Kenny Pickett would return to team drills, but Shedeur Sanders was still out.  While it’s good to see Pickett return, it will be interesting to see how the snaps are doled out vs. the Rams.  If Pickett is healthy, they will likely want to see him in action, but it’s also going to be important to see Sanders (if healthy) and Gabriel get a ton of snaps in the last live action before the regular season.

Even with Flacco being named the starter yesterday, there are still plenty of unanswered questions around the Browns’ quarterback room.
