Jets sign ‘Thiccer Kicker’ to try and replace Greg Zuerlein

The New York Jets need a new kicker after cutting Greg Zuerlein earlier in the offseason.

They just signed a potential fan favorite to compete for the job.

It’s the “Thiccer Kicker,” Harrison Mevis out of Missouri. He earned his nickname in college because he’s a stocky fella.

Mevis just finished up a season in the UFL, where he went 20-for-21 on field goals for the Birmingham Stallions. His longest make was from 54 yards out.

He was an undrafted rookie in 2024, but he didn’t make the Panthers.

That set Mevis up to head to spring football action to earn another shot, and that’s what he did.

Listed at 5-foot-11 and 236 pounds at Mizzou, Mevis once made a 61-yard field goal for the Tigers, an SEC record.

Mevis made 86 field goals in his college career.

His official listing in the UFL raised up to 6-feet, 242 pounds.

The Jets have options at kicker. On the 90-man roster with Mevis are former Packers draft pick Anders Carlson and rookie undrafted free agent Caden Davis.

Carlson kicked in five games for the Jets a season ago, potentially giving him a leg up.

But Mevis has inspiration for this path.

Last season, Jake Bates went from the UFL to the Lions and was an immediate stud in the NFL.

If Mevis can follow that blue print, the Jets will have made a brilliant signing.
