The New York Jets are trying their hand at yet another starting quarterback in 2025.
After the failed Aaron Rodgers experiment, the Jets cut ties with the future Hall of Famer and signed Justin Fields to a two-year contract.
But Fields is anything but a sure thing, as he showed in his failed stints with the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers.
As a result, it’s very possible the Jets will be in the market for another starting signal-caller in 2026, and they could spring for one early in next year’s draft.
Sayre Bedinger of NFL Spin Zone sees the Jets doing exactly that.
He has New York landing dynamic South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers with the No. 5 in the 2026 NFL draft.
Fields was a 1st-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Bears and is in a situation now with the Jets where he almost certainly has the best combination of weapons and offensive line that he’s had in his entire NFL career. Can he put it all together under a new staff? If not, the Jets will be looking to move on quickly.
With his immense arm talent and explosive athletic ability, Sellers stands to be one of the most intriguing quarterbacks in the 2026 class, assuming he actually comes out after two years as a starter.
Sellers tallied 2,534 passing yards, 674 rushing yards and 25 total touchdowns and showed a ton of promise in his first season as the Gamecocks’ starter in 2024. He also earned some awards, winning the FWAA Freshman Offensive Player of the Year and the SEC Freshman of the Year.
Looking ahead to 2025, Sellers has to fine tune some things in his game in order to take that next step, but if he can do that and build on his 2024 production, he could become the most coveted signal-caller in the class.
The Jets are expected to have a rough year in 2025 as they transition to a new regime, so they should be picking at or near the top of the draft in 2026.
If so, they’ll be in position to grab Sellers if he comes out.
