Jets predicted to add $60 million star playmaker to help Justin Fields

The New York Jets want to see if Justin Fields can be their long-term answer at quarterback in 2025. The 26-year-old signed a two-year deal with New York in free agency this offseason after showing some promise with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025, and with the Jets not selecting a quarterback in April’s draft, they are ready to give Fields an opportunity to have a long-awaited breakout campaign.

Though Fields has a productive and capable No.1 receiver in Garrett Wilson, New York should look to add another playmaker to the offense for their starting signal-caller. Allen Lazard is fine, but he doesn’t move the needle much as the No.2 receiver.

There aren’t that many high-level pass-catchers left on the market, but Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay proposes a trade that would send Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton to the Jets for a 2026 fourth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick.

“The New York Jets could be very interested in Sutton’s services if he’s made available. The receiver would provide far better support than new quarterback Justin Fields’ current options after Wilson and gives the squad a better chance of making a postseason foray,” Kay wrote.

Sutton is coming off one of the best years of his career in 2024, as he tallied a career-high 81 receptions for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games. The veteran receiver has posted at least 700 yards in every healthy season of his career and is one of the most underrated playmakers in the sport.

Though Sutton would be a fantastic addition to New York’s offense and form an electric duo with Wilson, there is zero chance Denver would trade him. Sutton is entering the final year of his deal in 2025, but the 29-year-old’s connection with quarterback Bo Nix and stellar play in 2024 will likely lead to the Broncos giving him a lucrative extension before he hits the market.

Additionally, the Jets have to figure out an extension with their own star receiver in Wilson, so the franchise likely won’t have enough money to also sign Sutton to a new deal after trading valuable draft capital for him.

Sutton landing with Wilson and Fields in New York would be exhilarating. However, it’s hard to envision a world where the former Pro Bowl receiver isn’t in Denver for the foreseeable future.
