Jets’ Mason Taylor gets injury update ahead of Bengals game

The New York Jets got an update on rookie tight end Mason Taylor today, who hasn’t yet practiced this week with a quad injury.

Mike Garafolo reported that Taylor did not practice on Thursday with a quad injury.

After the fact, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the rookie still has a good shot to play Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Mason Taylor ‘not ruled out’ for Sunday’s game

“Sounds like this one is not a major injury and not ruled out for Sunday,” Rapoport posted on X.

The Jets are already likely going to be missing No. 1 wideout Garrett Wilson for Sunday’s contest against the Bengals, as he continues to deal with a knee injury.

Outside of Wilson, New York is lacking in the wide receiver department to say the least, relying on veterans Josh Reynolds and Tyler Johnson.

Losing Taylor, who is arguably the Jets’ next-best pass catcher, would be a massive blow.

The former LSU standout was New York’s second-round pick in this year’s draft, selected 42nd overall.

Through seven games, Taylor has racked up 24 receptions for 208 yards, registering 14 first downs.

With Wilson sidelined and Taylor hopefully suited up for Sunday, expect the Jets to funnel their passing game through their rookie tight end and dual-threat running back, Breece Hall.

If New York wants to pick up their first win of the season against Cincinnati, they’ll hope to have a strong offensive outing to match the Bengals’ firepower.
