Jets’ Mark Scheifele suffers shocking loss of father, Winnipeg announces Game 6 plans for star center

Mark Scheifele has suffered an impossible loss.

The Jets announced that Scheifele’s father, Brad, died overnight Friday into Saturday.

Winnipeg is in Dallas to take on the Stars in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals on Saturday night.

Scheifele missed morning skate, but he will be on the ice for Game 6, head coach Scott Arniel said earlier on Saturday.

“As he said, that would be the wishes of his dad,” Arniel told reporters. “He would want him to play.

“Mark really wants to play for him tonight.”

The cause or details of Brad’s death were not disclosed by Winnipeg.

“That’s such a big loss,” Jets captain Adam Lowry told reporters. “That’s your mentor. That’s the person you looked up to growing up. That’s the person you want to be like.”

The Jets season would end with a loss on Saturday night.

Scheifele is the center on their top line, and he has 10 points in 10 games.

This will be the toughest game he ever plays, but he’s out there for his dad.
